It is time to bench the benchmark…

Dear Saints of the Living God – Grace and Mercy to you and your family!

I saw a clipping on a youtube Ad, where they are talking about how one cannot make their investment strategies based on the benchmark.   Hmm, seriously?

bench

I don’t know whether that is a safe bet or not – but this Ad was bothering me, as I was thinking about the church and how it applies to us at this present time…

if the word of God is the benchmark for the Christian life, how much are we benching this benchmark?   If the world mocks at the bible through their action, they are answerable to that, but if we, don’t have our actions aligned – then, my dear friends, we have a problem.

Paul talks about this in – 2 Timothy 4:3,“For the time will come when they will not endure sound doctrine, but according to their own desires, because they have itching ears, they will heap up for themselves teachers;”

Paul is not telling Timothy, that in the end, your voice will be heard, or there will be revival, or sick will be healed, but instead he is cautioning his mentee, that the end is a downward spiral and that we will look for what our itching ears wants to hear.   Again, he is not talking about the world going after their desires…

Here is an example of something (that is close to home for many of us), the pastors will not go there willingly…

Social Media network:  Look at the Facebook or twitter handle – we, the church, are no different than the world, we all want to have a page, and wants to turn the attention to ourselves, by throwing statuses on the Facebook, and by the end of the day, if we don’t see enough “likes”  – gets quenched… honestly, tell me – isn’t that the truth?

We have become the most narcissistic society… self-adoration is at its peak… all about me, me, me… that’s why companies like apple are making products like ‘iPod’, ‘iPhone’ and ‘iPad’ etc.,  let’s go ahead and feed the i, i, i mindset…

I am not saying having a Facebook page for ourselves is bad, but when we are consumed by it, like the world – then Houston, we have a problem.   That’s self-worship.    Can we have any of the pastors address this, simple self-adoration efforts from the pulpit?

This is only a simple example… but think about it, how many times our decisions get swayed by television or  internet or in the name of the American spirit…  that we take the stands just like the world.  When we guard our hearts and our minds with God’s word (His benchmark) – then the Holy Spirit will hound us, we will know in our heart that it is wrong and He will not leave us until we fix them.

We have benchmarks that was recorded in the WORD, about how King Nebuchadnezzar, as he went down this dangerous path of self-achievement, and as we read – even while the thought was still in his mind, things changed for the worse… again, if our hearts are in the process of benching the benchmark… then, we will conveniently ignore the sound doctrine.

When things don’t happen the way, we expect – then, we try to throw the tantrum like a 2 year old against God.    The Lord didn’t promise a problem-less life, we will all have our own share of issues that we need to deal with, but how do we face these trial?  with our own strength vs. getting the Lord on our side…

The world can bench the benchmark, but we cannot afford to… Look for areas, where we are not aligned with God’s benchmark,  let us not give room for the enemy to take strongholds in our lives…

Let us pray ,  Father God, If there are areas in our life that is not pleasing before you, we want to leave them right here and right now… If our actions are based out of my insecurity, instead of pure love for You and Your Kingdom, then clean us Lord with Hyssop, so we will become white as snow… Help us, Lord to walk closer to you.   Give us the peace that transcends all understanding.

We surrender this journey of life into your mighty hands…  In Jesus name, we pray.  Amen and Amen!
